Transforming the Way Irvine Lives, Shops & Dines

Designed for connection and convenience, The Canopy places everything you need within reach—whether it’s a morning coffee, an evening out, or a place to gather with friends.

  • The Canopy: A Destination Rooted in Community

    A LEGACY OF AGRICULTURE

The Canopy and Great Park sit on land with a rich history dating back to 1864, when James Irvine Sr. and partners formed the 110,000-acre Irvine Ranch. By the 20th century, tenant farmers made Irvine Ranch a leading producer of oranges and lima beans until World War II reshaped its future.

  • The Canopy: A Destination Rooted in Community

FROM MILITARY TRAINING BASE TO COMMUNITY VISION

In 1942, the U.S. Marine Corps chose Irvine Ranch for Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, a key aviation base for over 50 years until its closure in 1999. In 2002, voters approved transforming the site into Orange County Great Park, a hub for recreation, culture, and community engagement.

  • The Canopy: A Destination Rooted in Community

GREAT PARK’S FIRST RETAIL EXPERIENCE AWAITS

With Great Park flourishing as a hub for sports, culture, and outdoor recreation, one element was missing—a place to shop, dine, and gather. The Canopy completes the experience with a vibrant mix of retail, dining, and entertainment for residents and visitors alike.

Blending modern design with historical significance, The Canopy is a vibrant all-day destination where the past meets the future, and where Orange County’s next chapter is being written.

“The Canopy at Great Park is a community center where you can spend the entire day, blending in local, regional, and national tenants in a fun and thoughtful way.”

— Oliver Chi, City Manager
